KARACHI: Human rights cell set up

KARACHI, Feb 25: The inspector-general of police, Sindh, Jehangir Mirza, has ordered the establishment of a special Human Rights Cell where both men and women police personnel will be deployed.

The IG made the decision in this regard while talking to a five-member delegation of an NGO of women rights at Central Police Office, said a statement issued here on Sunday.

Elected members of registered NGOs working to safeguard human Rights, particularly those of women, will also be part of this cell which will start functioning next week.

Jehangir Mirza directed the DIG Operations to establish contact with the representatives of the said NGOs on an immediate basis and seek their suggestions and recommendations to outline the aims and objectives of the special cell in their light.

The delegation appreciating the decision of setting up a cell, and said this would not only improve liaison between representatives of registered NGOs and police officials but problems relating to violation of human rights particularly those of women would also be resolved in a proper manner.

The IG also issued directives for proper training of the men and women police personnel for discharge of services in the cell.—APP
