GILGIT, Feb 24: The Northern Areas finance department will establish a database of over 23,000 government employees in the region as part of a good governance project recently financed by the German government.

A senior official of the department said that this database mechanism would make it easy for accessing to service profile of employees working at various departments of Northern Areas and the project would also help gather information about spending of development funds in about 1,000 projects.

The official said that the federal government was spending a sum of Rs30m on a good governance project for ensuring adoption of transparency and fair play in the functioning of the government.

He said the project would also help in keeping the record of over 3,000 drawing and disbursing officers.

He said that the government income and spending would be centralised through registration of vehicles by the excise and taxation department. He said they would get a hub of information through networking of government departments which is being developed to connect all offices with the main information portal.
