KARACHI, Feb 22: The Alumni Association of the Ankara-based Middle East Technical University (METU) was formed here on Wednesday with the Consul General of Turkey as its patron. The announcement to this effect was made at the residence of Turkish Consul General Erdem Mutaf, during a reception he hosted for a group of senior visiting Metu scholars on a goodwill visit to Pakistan.

The consul general said the main objective of the Metu-Pak Alumni Association would be the promotion and fostering of cultural links between the people of Pakistan and Turkey through bilateral activities. He called formation of the alumni association an important step in further strengthening the excellent relations between the two countries.

Metu is one of Turkey’s most competitive and prominent universities. Each year over one-third of the 1,000 students with the highest scores taking the National University Entrance Examination, attend Metu.—By Our Reporter
