4 found in illegal police detention

LARKANA, Feb 21: Four people were found in illegal confinement at the Mirokhan police station on Wednesday during a raid conducted by a court official on the directive of the district and sessions judge, Qambar-Shahdadkot.

Ali Bakhsh Brohi, resident of Jan Mohammad Brohi village, had approached the court, complaining that the SHO of Mirokhan had arrested his brother Mohammad Aachar and cousin Rahim Bakhsh. The SHO, according to him, demanded gratification to release both of them.

The judge appointed Liaquat Ali Sangi as raid commissioner with the orders to pay a surprise visit to the police station and locate the detainees.

When he raided the police station, he found both of them in the lockup of the Mirokhan police. The in-charge police officer failed to produce any documents validating their arrests.

During the search, the court official also found two others, Shafqat Ali Khokhar and Illahi Bakhsh Khokhar (brothers), kept in the lockup in habeas corpus against whom neither any FIR nor any complaint was available with the police.

The police had even made no entry in the 'Roznancha' for the four people.

The raid commissioner released the detained people and asked the SHO and the in-charge of the investigation police to appear in the court on Thursday with the illegally-detained men and the documents, if any, showing their arrests.

Vehicle registration: Sindh secretary, excise and taxation, Iqbal Ahmad Bablani, has said centralised online motor vehicle registration system will be introduced in a couple of days to intertwine the regional offices of the excise and taxation department throughout Sindh.

Talking to journalists here on Wednesday, he said that the people could get their vehicles registered online from Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpurkhas.
