KARACHI, Feb 21: The lawyers’ community staged a sit-in on M.A. Jinnah Road on Wednesday in protest against the killing of their colleagues and a judge in the Quetta suicide bomb blast last week.

The lawyers took out a procession from the city courts led by the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) office-bearers and blocked MA Jinnah Road for some time to lodge their protest.

The KBA President, Iftikhar Javed Qazi, General Secretary Naeem Qureshi addressing the gathering expressed concern at the deteriorating law and order situation in the country and termed it a failure of the government.

They said the government was not serious in taking practical steps to ensure protection of the people, adding the courts had also been left at the terrorists’ mercy. They said terrorists had now started targetting lawyers and judges.

They said lawyers could not remain a spectator and warned the KBA would follow whatever decision was taken by the community for protection of their colleagues and judges. The protestors dispersed peacefully later.—A Reporter
