MIRPURKHAS, Feb 21: The district council has alleged that taluka and local Zakat committees in the district are involved in corruption and favouritism, depriving deserving people of Zakat funds, and called upon the Sindh government to dissolve the committees and re-constitute them with consultations of union council nazims.

The demand was made through a unanimously passed resolution in the council meeting on Wednesday.

The resolution, moved by Amanullah Shar, also urged the government to provide share of Zakat funds of 31 local Zakat committees of four UCs of Sindhri taluka which had been deprived of the funds for two years.

District Zakat Officer Ghulam Ali Leghari told the meeting that 460 local Zakat committees had received Rs139,390,427 on account of subsistence allowance.
