KARACHI, Feb 21: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation failed to maintain uninterrupted power supply in various localities on Wednesday, as it resorted to load shedding for what the officials called up-gradation of local distribution network.

The complainants said the names of their localities were not mentioned in the notified schedule of power shutdown and power supply was suspended unannounced.

They said for the last couple of weeks there was not a single day when power failures had not occurred in the city though the weather was still pleasant and power consumption was not high.

A resident of Haroonabad said power breakdowns had become a matter of routine and the power supply on Wednesday was suspended at 11am. He said the KESC authorities took three hours to restore it.

A complainant from Karachi University said power was suspended at noon and restored at 2.20 pm. The power failure left photo copiers helpless and a number of students could not get their notes copied in time. He said uninterrupted power supply to educational institutes and hospitals must be ensured.

Complaints of power failures were also received from Federal B Area, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Scheme 33, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir and Lyari.

The schedule of power shutdown for Thursday from 9am to 6pm has been announced for the areas of North Nazimabad blocks C, D, F, M, and N, Baldia Town Sector 21, Saddullah Goth, Dawood Goth, Musharraf Colony, Aliya Nadir, Pak Colony, Natha Khan Goth, Falaknaz Apartments, Shadman, Jafri Market, Malir Extension, Kausar Town, Indus Mehran Society, ‘H’ Area, Azeempura, Mohammad Pura, Millat Town, Gulfishan Society, Bilal Town, Railway Society, Bostan-i-Raza, Gulshan-i-Kaleem, Moeenabad, Rahim Khan Goth, Ibrahim Nafees, Shalimar Pride in Malir, Cattle Colony, Majeed Colony, Bilal Town, Labour Flats in Landhi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block-4, Azeem Khan Goth, National Stadium, and KDA Officer Society, Sharea Faisal, Mohammad Ali Society, Korangi sectors 51-D, 51-L, 51-M, 51N, D, E, H, Industrial Area, Tipu Sultan Road and Hill Park of Jamshed Town, Federal B Area blocks 9, 15 of Gulberg Town, Bin Qasim Area, Gulistan-i-Jauhar block-1, Pakistan Youth Hostel, Nishtar Road Garden, North Karachi Sector 5-M, Gulshan-i-Ghazi Block-B and Orangi Town.
