KARACHI, Feb 21: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said work on different schemes is in progress in the province with $600 million assistance of the Asian Development Bank while the City District Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, said the government has chalked out a comprehensive plan for the development of Karachi Beach. The beach project will receive $60 billion foreign investment.

The ADB mission led byJuan Miranda called on Chief Minister Dr Arbab Rahim and his advisor on finance affairs M.A. Jalil separately.

The City Nazim, who was also present at the meetings. He informed the mission that the federal, provincial and district governments were also spending between Rs25 billion to Rs50 billion on Karachi’s development. He said a huge investment of Rs1.1 billion had already been made in Karachi which included an IT Tower, elevated expressway, Mass Transit Corridor One.

Mr Jalil the sought cooperation of the ADB for the training of Sindh officials.

Mr Miranda assured the full cooperation of the ADB. He requested the Sindh government that those ADB projects which were not working properly such projects should be replaced by other useful projects and the ADB’s assistance should be diverted to other useful projects.

The chief minister informed the mission that the government had decided to improve the irrigational system in Sindh which included the construction of 400 kms long Nara Canal embankment to save water so it could reach the tailenders.

The chief minister also had a detailed discussion on the mega city and secondary city projects and said that the government was considering different projects to provide basic amenities in all towns of the the province. The mission assured the chief minister of full cooperation from the ADB.
