GUJAR KHAN, Feb 20: The local police have arrested the alleged ring leader of a gang of robbers involved in looting CNG stations in Gujar Khan, Mandra and Rawalpindi city, SP Rural Division Inayatullah Farooqui told this reporter on Tuesday.

According to the officer during the last six months a number of CNG stations were looted in the district throwing police into a tailspin. District Police Officer (DPO) Saud Aziz had instructed the force to apprehend the culprits without further waste of time, as the gang’s activities were creating scare in the district.

After hectic efforts, Gujar Khan police arrested Shahzad Ahmed Sial, a resident of Jand Najjar. During investigations the accused confessed to looting five CNG and filling stations, the officer said.

According to Mr Farooqui, Shahzad Ahmed and his accomplices looted Hasnain CNG station, Gujar Khan; Ad-More filling station, Mandra; AAJ CNG station, Qasim Market, Rawalpindi city; Safeways CNG station, R.A, Bazaar Rawalpindi; and Raja CNG station on Bewal Road in Gujar Khan.

According to the officer, the accused also confessed to committing highway robberies in the jurisdiction of Jatli police station. The alleged robber identified the other gang members as Jamal alias Jamala, resident of Chathri Chowk, Rawalpindi; Safeer, resident of Rumat; Qaisar Butt, resident of Jabbar Islampura; Zuilfiqar, resident of Jattal; Jameel, resident of Dhoke Kashmirian, Rawalpindi; and Afsar Khan alias Doctor Khan, resident of Pirwadhai, Rawalpindi

The gang was spotted committing robberies on a black colored Toyota 2-OD car and managed to leave police off the scent in a number of robberies. The officer claimed that the other gang members would soon be apprehended.
