HYDERABAD, Feb 19: Lawyers, in response to a country-wide boycott call by their legal fraternity, boycotted courts across the province on Monday in protest against a suicide bomb blast in the courtroom of senior civil judge in Quetta on Saturday, which killed 16 people including a senior judge.

They sat in the bar rooms, held general body meetings and brought out rallies but did not appear in courts.

In Hyderabad the lawyers including office-bearers of Hyderabad District Bar Association (HDBA) and High Court Bar Association boycotted the courts leading to board of regular cases being discharged in the Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court.

Police did not produce under trial prisoners in many cases and those who were brought to courts had to be returned. The HDBA’s general body meeting offered fateha for the people who died in Quetta incident and demanded arrest of the terrorists involved in the inhuman act.

T. M. KHAN: Lawyers held a protest demonstration under the aegis of District Bar Association (DBA) and wore black armbands as a mark of protest. DBA President Abdul Hakeem Memon urged the government to arrest people responsible for the suicide attack.

KHAIRPUR: Lawyers in Khairpur, Gambat, Kingri, Faiz Ganj and Thari Mirwah talukas staged demonstrations seeking arrest of culprits involved in Quetta blast.

People’s Lawyers Forum (PLF) staged a demonstration on the Court Road in Khairpur. PLF leaders Liaquat Shar and Lala Ather Pathan deplored the fact that the lawyers and judges who ensured protection for people were themselves not secure.

Mr Shar said that PLF had held similar demonstrations in Sukkur, Ghotki, Kandiaro, Naushahro Feroze, Moro and Nawabshah. A meeting of DBA condemned the bomb blast and demanded protection for lawyers and judges.

Under directives of district and sessions’ judge Khairpur Akhlaq Hussain Larik, security arrangements were tightened in and around the sessions and other lower courts and police were deployed on all the three gates of the court building.

MIRPURKHAS: Lawyers boycotted court proceedings and staged a rally under the banner of DBA. They held the government responsible for the blast and said it had failed to provide protection even to the judges and lawyers.

Led by DBA President Salahuddin Panhwar the rally started from district and sessions court carrying banners and placards and reached the local press club after marching on main thoroughfares.

Earlier, a DBA meeting chaired by Mr Panhwar condemned the Quetta incident and urged the authorities to provide protection to judiciary. The lawyers in Umerkot also boycotted courts.

NAWABSHAH: Lawyers boycotted court proceedings and staged a demonstration in the court premises demanding complete protection and security for the judges, lawyers and general public.

Nawabshah DBA President Ali Mohammed Dahri and General Secretary Ziaul Hassan Lanjar condemned the blast and said that law and order condition in the country was going from bad to worse and the law-enforcing agencies had completely failed to control the situation.

JACOBABAD: Lawyers staged a rally and wore black armbands in protest against the killing of a judge and lawyers in Quetta bomb blast.

Led by DBA President Haji Anwar Jakhrani the protesters marched to the press club carrying banners and placards where they staged a sit-in.

Haji Anwar Ali Jakhrani, Ahmed Bux Ansari, Sardar Khan, Abdul Jabbar and Bilawal Buriro said that the government had completely failed to protect the lives of judges and lawyers.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Lawyers in Naushahro Feroze, Moro and Kandiaro boycotted courts in protest against bomb blast in Quetta, which killed a civil judge and several lawyers.

DADU: Lawyers boycotted courts in Dadu, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah Johi, Sehwan and Kotri condemning suicide attack on a court in Quetta. They were led by DBA President Shafi Mohammad Memon, Pir Mujeeb and Ms Kulsoom Chandio.

LARKANA: Lawyers who boycotted court proceedings in the Larkana circuit bench of the Sindh High Court and lower courts and urged the government to arrest people involved in the Quetta bomb blast.
