ISLAMABAD, Feb 19: The recent intermittent rains in the twin cities could probably be the last downpour this winter. Many have already perceived it to be a signal from nature that the cold weather is drawing to its close, and have started preparations to welcome spring.

As such the spring plantation campaign formally kicked off on Monday, with people planting saplings in lawns of their offices and houses.

Spring is a time of new beginning, with major agricultural activities commencing at the end of February. Colourful blankets of flowers can be seen for miles. Whether they be tulips, hydrangea, narcisus or daffodils, their aroma fills the air.

Life sprouts during this time of the year, a time which serves as an interval between two severe forms of weather — winter and summer.

Spring is welcomed with a lot of fanfare and celebrations all over the world. In Pakistan, Jashn-i-Baharan or spring festival is organised at the end of February. Besides, people flock to nurseries that sell flowers and plants of all sorts.

The dull colours are replaced with reds and yellows, the colours of spring. — APP
