KARACHI: CPP condemns abduction

Published February 20, 2007

KARACHI, Feb 19: The Communist Party of Pakistan condemning abduction of a senior journalist Sohail Qalandar, Peshawar-based resident editor of the daily Express, has demanded for his safe recovery immediately.

In a statement issued here on Monday, the CPP said that the government claimed it supported media freedom; its indifferent attitude towards the kidnapping of a senior journalist had exposed its true colours.

It also criticised the government for restricting media movement in the parliament and termed it as against the government’s claims of freedom of media.

The CPP demanded that Sohail Qalander be recovered and the restrictions put on the movement of media be lifted immediately.
