KARACHI, Feb 19: The Jamaat-i-Islami condemning the ban imposed on the activities of two welfare organisations — Al-Rasheed Trust and Al-Akhtar Trust — has demanded that the ban be lifted and they be allowed to resume their social welfare activities.

In a statement issued on Monday, JI leader Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui condemned the government for imposing the ban on the Trusts on the directives from the United States of America (USA) and termed it interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign country.

The JI leader said that the government had failed to provide relief and assistance to the poor and the welfare activities of these Trusts had been suspended.

He said if such social welfare organisations were not allowed to work, poverty, unemployment, lawlessness would increase in the country.

He said the government should give all out assistance to such organisations instead of imposing ban.
