MIRPURKHAS Feb 18: Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz activists observed protests in different parts of Sindh on Sunday against the picking up of senior JSQM leader Abdul Wahid Arisar and others allegedly by personnel of intelligence agencies in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The party activists staged a demonstration outside the Mirpurkhas Press Club to protest against the detention of Mr Arisar and his companions.
The protesters were carrying banners and placards and raising slogans against the government.
Speaking on the occasion, the district president of the JSQM, Faqeer Qaisar Khan Mari, Asghar Narejo, Sindh National Front leaders Ali Hassan Chandio and Mazhar Mirani and others said that the kidnapping and torture would not thwart the nationalist movement of Sindh.
They said that Mr Arisar had struggled throughout his life for the rights of Sindh and he was not alone in the struggle as people of Sindh were with him.
NAWABSHAH, Feb 18: A group of JSQM activists observed a token hunger strike outside the local press club in protest against the picking up of Mr Arisar and others.
The protesters said that Mr Arisar was picked up and tortured by the agencies because ‘he is a real nationalist.
KHAIRPUR: A meeting of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz national congress, held at the residence of its leader Mujtaba Shah Rashdi in Pirjo-Goth on Sunday, kept quiet on the incident.
Presided over by Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Bashir Qureshi, the meeting decided to observe black day in Sindh on February 24 as one year of enforced disappearance of party general secretary Dr Safdar Sarki would complete on that day.
The meeting appealed to JSQM workers and other people to ensure their participa-tion to make the black day a success.
The meeting rejected construction of all dams, including Kalabagh dam, on the River Indus and decided to continue struggle against anti-Sindh projects.
Referring to recent debate about provincial autonomy, the meeting observed that Punjab would not allow autonomy to smaller provinces, hence, the debate was nothing but propaganda aimed at diverting attention of the people from other important economic and political issues.
Later, Bashir Qureshi told journalists that disappearance of leaders and workers of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and other political parties after being picked up by the agencies was aimed at creating harassment among nationalist parties but those forces would fail to achieve their objectives.
