Hesco drive sparks protest

SHIKARPUR, Feb 17: Power supply to all the pumping stations of the city were cut off by Hesco due to non-payment of bills as a result of which roads and streets were inundated with sewage.

A big rally, under the lead of the Taluka Nazim of Shikarpur, Zafar Ali Shaikh, was also taken out to protest against the disconnection drive which made the pumping stations in-operational.

A large number of people, including the Taluka Naib Nazim, Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor Soomro, TMO Mohammad Khan Magsi, Engineer Agha Naeem Khan, municipal and sanitation staff, besides councillors, participated in the rally.

The protesters marched on Station, Saddar, power house roads and staged demonstrations at Jumani Hall, Jahaz Chowk and Civil Hospital Chowk. They also blocked the city roads.

Meanwhile the sanitation staff, carrying garbage in tractor trolleys, reached at the Hesco office and threw it in front of its main gate.

The TPO City, Ali Mohammad Shahani, along with a with police contingent, reached there and controlled the situation.

The Deputy Manager of Hesco, Engr Nazeer Ahmed Kalhoro, was called in his office and a meeting was arranged between him and the taluka nazim.

CRUSHED: A minor boy Abid Ali Shah 5, was crushed to death under the wheels of a speedy tractor near Lodra village on Jacobabad road on Saturday.

The boy was crossing the road when tractor hit him. The tractor driver escaped. Sultankot police registered the case.
