KARACHI, Feb 16: PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and her spouse, Asif Ali Zardari, on Friday phoned the the party’s Central Information Secretary Sherry Rehman and inquired about her health. Ms Bhutto and her spouse prayed for her speedy health recovery.

Ms Rehman is still in hospital, where she was admitted after an attack on her during a protest rally on Wednesday.

Former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif also sent her a bouquet in hospital which was presented by the PML-N Additional Information Secretary Sardar Rahim.

Former Sindh Governor Justice (retd) Fakhruddian G Ebrahim also visited the hospital and inquired about her health.

Meanwhile, PPP Parliamentarians President Makhdoom Amin Fahim has condemned an attack on the party’s Central Information Secretary, MNA Sherry Rehman and demanded that the regime take immediate action against the culprits.

In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that the attack on Ms Rehman was the fourth attack on PPP leaders and workers within a week.

Mr Fahim, who is also the chairman of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD), said that on February 10 Dr Azra Pechooho, a sitting MNA and sister-in-law of party chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, was attacked in Jamshoro in the presence of provincial ministers and she narrowly escaped. “Now, one of the most important and vocal members of our party has been attacked openly in public,” he added.

He said the February 14 rally was a part of the campaign organised to protest against what he claimed were the most rigged elections in the country’s history.

“We are not surprised Ms Rehman was targeted as she had been very active in the by-election campaign. She was in the spotlight on election day as she kept updating the media on the massive rigging in progress,” he stated.
