MUZAFFARABAD, Feb 15: The AJK police have devised a standard operating procedure (SOP) to launch rapid and organised action in the event of any major crime, including abduction or carjacking, Inspector General of Police Shahid Hasan said here on Wednesday.

At a press conference, he said the police had carried out a survey to enforce several safety and precautionary measures, including evening patrolling prior to the night patrolling. Apart from that, he said, the manpower at police checkposts at entry/exit points of the Azad Kashmir was also being increased.

Mr Hasan, who was flanked by Muzaffarabad DIG Sheikh Tahir Qayyum and SSP Dr Liaquat, said the police would also launch a strict drive against non-custom duty paid vehicles in the state so as to curb their use in any kind of crime.

The AJK police chief spoke to media in the wake of abduction of a university student from the state capital on Friday last by three residents of the Punjab. The girl was recovered after three hours in the jurisdiction of neighbouring Bagh district and the main accused and his local driver were also arrested. However, his two accomplices were at large as they had already got down from the vehicle on the outskirts of Muzaffarabad.
