KARACHI, Feb 15: A Swiss business delegation, led by the under-secretary of state, Swiss Federal Department of Economy, Ms Monika Ruhl Burzi, on Thursday discussed with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, State Minister Tariq Ikram, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, investment and trade opportunities between Switzerland and Pakistan.

Talking to newsmen on Thursday at the Swiss Consulate, Ms Burzi said their visit was aimed at further strengthening economic ties between the two countries. Swiss ambassador Markus Peter and consul-general Martin Bienz were also present.

She said Dr Ibad assured the delegation that the government was willing to help foreign investors.

The government had passed laws which offer liberal investment climate, comparable to any other region, to facilitate business.

The state minister and chief of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Tariq Ikram said that the TDAP was set up to facilitate trade and assist businessmen achieve new economic opportunities.

He further stated that Pakistan was an excellent place for investment.

She said the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Salman Burney had informed them that volume of investment in Pakistan had increased, and the market size had made the country an attractive destination.

Ms Burzi said that the City Nazim briefed the team on huge funds being spent to upgrade facilities in industrial zones which have made Karachi a real place to set up industries.

The Swiss delegation also met prominent businessmen at a luncheon meeting where Karachi Chamber of Commerce President Majyd Aziz briefed them on what the city had to offer to foreign investors.—PPI
