LARKANA, Feb 14: The special medical board, constituted to examine Hazoor Bakhsh Malik, the sensitive part of whose body was chopped off while he was in the lock-up of the Market police station on Jan 25, unanimously opined on Wednesday that injuries suffered by him had been caused by a sharp weapon and were not self-inflicted.

The board, formed on the request of the Larkana superintendent of police (investigation), comprised seven members and was headed by Professor Sikandar Shaikh, the principal of Chandka Medical College. Other members of the board included Dr Zulfikar Ali Mastoi, Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics, Dr Ghulam Qadir Kaheri, Associate Professor of Forensic Medicine, Dr Farooque Ahmed Shaikh, Assistant Professor of Radiology, Dr Ghulam Akbar Solangi, Associate Professor of Medicine and Professor Aijaz Ahmed Memon of Surgery department. Dr Ghulam Ali Hulio, Deputy Medical Superintendent, CMCH, acted as secretary.

The board scrutinized the medial certificate issued by Senior Medical Officer Muneer Ahmed Shiakh on the day of incident and clinically examined the injured.

In their comments, the members of the board said that hesitation or tentative marks were absent. “As the victim is right handed, if the injury would have been self-suffered, the shallowness and tailing should have been on the right side. But it is present in the mid line towards the scrotum.

The self-suffered injuries are always on safer areas,” the board commented.

It said that a fabricator usually avoided harming vital and sensitive parts of his body. The board said that the injuries to Malik were not self-suffered, therefore, the certificate issued by Dr Shaikh was correct.
