Sailors upset champions

KARACHI, Feb 11: Navy pulled off the first upset by handing a 3-2 defeat to defending champions Police on the opening day of the 21st National junior volleyball championship at Peshawar’s Qayyum Sports Complex on Sunday.

The sailors were home 27-29, 27-25, 25-18, 31-33, 15-10 in a battle which lasted for 125 minutes.

In the other matches, Punjab beat Fata 3-0, Wapda got the better of Pakistan Steel 3-1, Army notched up 3-0 win over AJK and NWFP defeated Fata by the identical scoreline.

Results:

Navy bt Police 3-2 (27-29, 27-25, 25-18, 31-33, 15-10); Punjab bt Fata 3-0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-15); Wapda bt Pakistan Steel 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13); Army bt AJK 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-4); NWFP bt Fata 3-0 (25-15, 25-5, 25-7).

Monday’s fixtures: Navy v Fata; Wapda v AJK; Army v Pakistan Steel; Police v Punjab; NWFP v Navy.
