LARKANA, Feb 10: A six-year-old girl Koonj died and three of her family sustained injuries on Saturday in the Luhno Samtio village on the outskirts of Larkana after the roof of their house caved in due to rain which started on Friday and continued into the night. The injured Walidad Chandio (father), Irshad (brother) and Naseeb Khatoon (mother) were moved to the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Our Khairpur correspondent adds: The light drizzle started a day ago gained intensity and became heavy rain lashing the district and several other parts of Upper Sindh on Saturday.

Rainwater accumulated on the roads and streets in many colonies and main roads of the city and there were reports that many mud houses had suffered damages in the wake rains.

As the downpour started the electricity broke down. It was out for in the whole city for about ten hours adding to people’s hardships.

According to farmers, the rains at this time of the year would affect baldy wheat crop which might get hit by Ratti and Karo Mahlo diseases.

Reports received from Thari Mirwah taluka said that rain with hail hit the taluka on Friday night damaging some mud houses and affecting wheat crop.

BREACH: The rains also led to Bilawal Wah developing a 50 foot breach near Sui submerging crops and brick stocks.

The irrigation department has reduced water level in two main canals Mirwah and Abul Wah of Khairpur in the wake of heavy rains to minimise damage in case of possible breaches.
