Published February 10, 2007

KARACHI, Feb 9: The Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) has announced support for the MQM candidate in the by- election for NA-250 scheduled for Saturday.

A statement issued by the MQM headquarters here on Friday said the announcement in this connection was made by PML (F) leader Imtiaz Shaikh, who on Friday visited the MQM central election office in the DHA.

According to the statement, MQM leaders including Dr Farooq Sattar, head of the Rabita Committee Pakistan Anwer Alam, Waseem Ahmed and Federal Minister for Communications Shamim Siddiqui were present in the election office.

PML (F) leader and provincial ministers Jam Madad Ali, Jadam Mangrio and Functional Sindh president Brig Arshad Zaman were also present on the occasion, the statement added.

ALTAF: MQM chief Altaf Hussain on Friday appealed to residents of Defence and Clifton belonging to the NA-250 constituency to provide transport with drivers to the party so that voters could be taken to the polling stations.

In a statement issued from London, Mr Hussain said he would be grateful to those who would provide “us with transport, because the MQM is an under-resourced political party and is in dire need for transport”.

In this connection, he said, the generous people should give their vehicles with drivers at 7am at the MQM central election office near the Teen Talwar roundabout. The central election office could be contacted on phone numbers 5224590 and 5214490, Mr Hussain added.
