SAHIWAL, Feb 7: District and Sessions Judge Dr Riaz Mahmood on Wednesday awarded death sentence to one of the six dacoits for killing a motorcyclist.

According to the prosecution, Naeem alias Billa along with his accomplices Muhammad Iqbal, Shaukat Ali, Ashiq, Ramzan and Sarwar had looted the house of Allah Ditta at Chak 5/11-L on April 11, 2005. The dacoits were fleeing after taking away valuables when motorcyclist Muhammad Anwar came in their way. The dacoits had allegedly shot him dead.

Harappa police had registered a case under Sections 302 and 396 of the PPC and arrested four of the six accused.

On Wednesday, the court awarded death sentence to Naeem Billa and ordered him to pay Rs100,000 compensation. The judge acquitted Iqbal, Shaukat and Ashiq of murder charges by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Ramzan and Sarwar are still at large and the court ordered their immediate arrest.

EXECUTED: A murder convict was executed at central jail on Wednesday morning.

Muhammad Ahmed Bodal had been awarded death sentence for killing fertilizer dealer Dur Muhammad. The Lahore High Court, the Supreme Court and the president had rejected his appeals.
