HARIPUR, Feb 7: Haripur-based civil society organisations on Wednesday condemned a grenade attack on the Save the Children US office in Batagram.

Speaking at an emergency meeting, NGO leaders demanded that the government should protect NGO workers, particularly in the earthquake-hit areas.

Two people were injured seriously when some miscreants hurled a grenade at the Save the Children US office in Batagram on Tuesday night.

The meeting was held at the office of the Human Development Organisation.

Representatives of Rural Development Project (RDP), Sustainable Development Vision (SDV) and media persons attended the meeting.

Speakers expressed concern over the state of security of life and property of citizens belonging to non-governmental organisations.

They said that the NGOs in the earthquake region had been rendering remarkable services to the humanity.

They said: “Grenade attack was meant to stymie activities of rehabilitation in the disaster-hit areas and to scare away the donors.” They said that the foreign donors had spent millions of dollars on providing shelters and were busy in rehabilitating the livelihood sources of areas of earthquake-affected areas.

They said that hurling grenade at the NGO office was a conspiracy against the country.

Sadaqat Khan, Asif Iqbal advocate, Ahsan Khan, Ibrar Hussain Shah and Ziafat Zaman spoke on the occasion.
