KARACHI, Feb 7: The Pakistan People’s Party staged a big rally on Wednesday in favour of the consensus candidate of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy, Nafees Ahmed Siddiqui, for by-election on a vacant national assembly seat (NA-250).
The election rally started from Masjid-i-Tooba in Defence at about 4pm and after passing through Cantt Station, Sharea Faisal, Bohri Bazaar, Regal Chowk, Burnes Road, Boating Basin, I.I. Chundrigar Road, PIDC, Clifton, Gizri and Punjab Colony terminated at the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi after five hours. Besides a large number of PPP leaders, workers and supporters, the rally was also attended by representatives of the PML-N, the Awami National Party, the Sunni Tehrik and all other opposition parties which had announced support for the PPP candidate.
PPP leaders, including Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Nisar Khuhro, Sherry Rehman, Safdar Abbasi, Rashid Rabbani, PML-N leader Salim Zia, ST leader Shahid Ghauri, ANP leader Shahi Syed, Basharat Mirza and others addressed the rally.
Speaking at the rally, PPP Sindh president Qaim Ali Shah said all opposition parties were united at a single platform for the restoration of true democracy in the country. He said the opposition parties had launched a movement against the regime.
