GUJRANWALA, Feb 6: Ghakkhar Town traders gave on Tuesday a 24-hour deadline to police to arrest Pakistan Muslim League workers for firing in a bazaar and panicking the traders and customers on Monday.
A traders’ delegation led by Moon Saqib met Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Khadim Hussain Bhatti and Inspector Mian Yasin and demanded that the accused be arrested soon.
The traders alleged the supporters of Town PML President Zahid Inayat Butt forced the traders to shut their shops at gunpoint to join them in a protest against the arrest of Butt on the charge of his alleged nexus with proclaimed offenders. On their refusal, accused opened fire and panicked the shopkeepers and customers.
Police have shifted Butt to Wazirabad lockup from Ghakkhar.
HUMAN AGENTS: The Federal Investigation Agency’s passport cell claimed to have nabbed 15 human agents and seized fake travelling documents from them. The cell on being tipped off raided a house in Gujranwala and arrested Muhammad Boota, Nazar Muhammad, Liaqat Ali, Khalid, Aslam, Nazim Hussain, Riaz Ahmad, Iftikhar Ali, Muhammad Jehangir, Akram, Afzal, Zulfikar, Abdul Latif, Shabbir Ahmad and Manzoor Ahmad. A case was registered against them.
ROBBERIES: Robbers struck four times in Gujranwala and stole valuables worth Rs1 million. Six people stormed into house of Muhammad Razaq Cheema in Cantonment, held hostage the inmates and locked them in a room. They collected cash and gold jewellery worth Rs900,000 and escaped.
Four people entered a shop at Pondanwala Chowk in Satellite Town, held owner Muhammad Yousaf at gunpoint and fled with calling cards and computer diskettes worth Rs45,000. Two people intercepted Muhammad Wasim at Guru Nanikpura and snatched Rs8,600, a mobile phone and a motorcycle. Two armed men stopped Muhammad Ashraf and deprived him of his motorcycle (GAP-9762) in Dogranwala.
DRIVER KILLED: A lorry driver was shot dead by unidentified car-riders on Sialkot Road. Gul Khan was driving his truck from Sialkot to Gujranwala. When he reached near Aroop Mor, the car-riders stopped him and opened fire on him after exchanging hot words on overtaking. He died instantly while police registered a case.
