FAISALABAD, Feb 6: Residents of Shamsabad have no access to potable water and facing various problems owing to lack of proper sewerage and sanitation system.

A few miles from the city, the area falls in the constituency of Textile Minister Mushtaq Cheema. There seems to be no effort from the quarters concerned to launch a water supply scheme and sewerage system. People are falling prey to stomach ailments as a result of using dirty water.

The roads are under sewerage water and the authorities concerned are not taking interest in draining it out. People are draining out water in empty plots as the locality has no proper sewerage system.

It has created ponds of dirty water which caused skin problems among the residents, mostly children. Moreover, these ponds are the ideal breeding place for mosquitoes.

Heaps of garbage could be seen along roads and streets as solid waste management bosses are not interested in deputing any staff to clean the area. Residents have to make their own arrangements to clean their locality.

Dust is another major problem as most of the streets are broken. A large number of people have been suffering from asthma due to it.

Mohammad Hanif, a resident of the area, told this reporter on Tuesday that despite repeated requests nothing has been done for the development of the locality. “It seems that we are living in hell.”

He appealed to the authorities concerned to pay immediate attention for the redressal of their grievances. The union council nazim could not be contacted despite repeated attempts on his mobile.
