KARACHI, Feb 6: A private security guard was shot dead and two passers-by were injured on Tuesday by four dacoits near the Bahadurabad roundabout in a botched robbery.

The guard, Azmat Ullah, of Ghazi Security Agency was going with the outdoor cashier of a money exchange company on a motorcycle after withdrawing Rs362,200 from ABN Amro Bank near Shaheed-i-Millat roundabout. A car with four occupants hit their motorcycle on a service lane and opened fire. The 28-year-old guard, father of an infant girl, died instantly, while passers-by Yasin, 30, and Naseema, 50, sustained bullet wounds.

The dead and injured were shifted to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre. A hospital official said the guard was hit by two bullets, one in his chest and the other in the abdomen. The woman, a beggar, sustained a bullet in her back and Yasin in his left leg. The injured persons’ condition was stable. Azmat Ullah hailed from Kohat and was residing in Hijrat Colony, Sultanabad.

The bandits fled immediately as the cashier ran into a lane. The cashier told the police that the dacoits could not snatch the money. However, he threw the money while running to save his life. The police registered a case against unknown bandits.
