LARKANA, Feb 5: Thirteen-year-old schoolgirl Ms Kainat Soomro who was reportedly raped after being abducted in Mehar town of Dadu district continued token hunger strike outside the press club along with her parents and sisters on Monday demanding the government should act to arrest the rapists.

She told reporters that police were making no move to arrest the four culprits nominated in the FIR because they were influential. They (accused) obtained her signature at gunpoint on plain papers during her detention and were now claiming she had signed a 'nikahnama', she said.

She said that she would file a constitutional petition through her lawyer Ayaz Soomro as the alleged rapists were threatening her and her family.

MNA Anwar Bhutto, MPA Ayaz Soomro, president of PPP Qambar-Shahdadkot district Ghulam Mujtaba Isran and leaders of many political and social organisations visited Ms Kainat’s camp and called for the arrest of the culprits.

The Soomro Association announced that they would stage a protest on February 8 and urged the government to take action.

PPP: The executive committee of People’s Party Parliamentarians of Larkana in its meeting on Monday called for the arrest of culprits who raped Ms Kainat Soomro.

The meeting expressed concern that 0.6 million employees had been sacked over seven years and people were committing suicide out of desperation and unemployment but the rulers were busy beating the drum of ‘very good economy’.
