KARACHI, Feb 4: MQM Chief Altaf Hussain has said that ‘anti-state elements’ were taking advantage of the ‘critical’ situation in Pakistan to carry out terrorist attacks and destabilise the country.

Mr Hussain was speaking at a meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad, federal minister Babar Ghauri, provincial minister Adil Siddiqui and Karachi City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal at the party’s international secretariat in London.

The four MQM leaders had rushed to London on Sunday. MQM Convener Dr Imran Farooq also attended the meeting.

A statement received from London said that Mr Hussain praised the government, especially the Sindh governor, for maintaining peace and harmony during Muharram.

However, the MQM chief warned that the threat of terrorism had not yet passed and the government should keep an eye on anti-state elements and provide safety and security to people.

During the meeting, the Sindh governor said that the federal and provincial governments and religious scholars had praised MQM’s efforts to promote peace and sectarian harmony.

Mr Hussain appealed to the federal government to support the city government in completing its projects besides calling for greater provincial autonomy.
