RAWALPINDI, Feb 4: Two students died of suffocation in their hostel room situated in the jurisdiction of Shahzad Town police on Sunday, police said.

Mohammad Ihsan, 17, and Mohammad Imran, 18, students of nursing, went to their beds Saturday night, leaving the gas heater on. The incident came to light on Sunday afternoon when the watchman of the hostel got suspicious after the two boys did not come out. When opening the door of their room, the watchman found the two boys lying on their beds with the room filled with gas. They were shifted to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. The deceased belonged to Hafizabad.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman sustained critical burns after reportedly being set on fire by her husband and his two brothers in the jurisdiction of Saddar Barooni area on Saturday, police said.

Misbah, wife of Mohammad Razik, in her initial statement recorded by the police, said she had a quarrel with her husband’s brother Nazik over some issue on Saturday morning.

The investigating officer said after the quarrel, Misbah called her mother to her house and complained to her about her in-laws’ attitude.

Quoting the burn victim, the investigating officer, ASI Mohammad Akbar, said when her husband arrived home in the evening, she also told him about her quarrel. But, he started torturing her and then with the help of his brothers, Nazik and Sabir, set her on fire.

The police said on hearing her screams people from the neighbourhood rushed to her rescue. The critically burnt woman was shifted to Rawalpindi General Hospital with more than 90 per cent burns. According to doctors, she has grim hope of survival. Police have launched their hunt to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, seven vehicles were stolen by thieves from different parts of the city on Saturday, police said.

Rashid Nazeer told Banni police that two gunmen snatched his car (RLA-1226) at gunpoint and escaped. Hameedul Haq’s car (RLD-2186) was stolen from R.A. Bazaar area, Farooq Ahmed’s car (LOR-448) was taken away by thieves from Saddar while Gul Nawaz’s car (LXJ-6620) went missing from Westridge area.

Similarly, Mohammad Usman’s motorcycle was stolen from Saddar, Irfan’s motorcycle from Waris Khan area and Shujauddin’s motorcycle from city police area.
