LAHORE, Feb 2: Gulberg police have failed to trace a `reckless’ driver and his car which crushed to death a college girl seven weeks ago.

The police failure is more painful for the family of Hamna Qadoos (16) as there are certain clues given by a witness that may lead police to the “killer” driver.

Girl’s father Abdul Qadoos, a resident of Canal Park, Gulberg II, says his family has been spending sleepless night for the last seven weeks. “We only want justice,” Qadoos, who is an electrician by profession, told Dawn.

Hamna, 16, was crushed to death by unidentified people riding a car in a `brutal way’ when she was standing along with her fellows at a bus stand in front of Liberty Market to catch a bus on Dec 15, 2006.

“We have been running from pillar to post to seek justice but Gulberg investigation police officials are using delaying tactics, claiming without launching any effort that the accused will be arrested,” Qadoos said.

He said irony of the matter was that the police officials could not trace the car and the accused when I had already provided them with a list of suspected registration numbers within a week of the FIR registration.

“An eyewitness had secretly written a suspected car number (3182-LW?) 86 model Corolla white’ on Hamna’s leave application book after the accident. Following the number, I managed to get a list of identical seven numbers from the Excise and Taxation department and gave the list to investigators SI Asadullah and investigation incharge inspector Arshad Hayat Kanju but they did not bother to trace the accused,” he said.

“Whenever I visit the police station, I am told that the SI is out of the city for official work.”

Speaking about his daughter, Qadoos said of his five children Hamna was more intelligent and wanted to become a professor. “She offered her prayers regularly,” he said.
