KARACHI, Feb 2: People continued to suffer intermittent and prolonged power failures in different areas of the city on Friday reportedly due to maintenance work which would continue till February 16.

Complaints of power suspension were received from Manzoor Colony, Defence, Lyari, Nazimabad and Liaquatabad. A number of residents told Dawn that despite repeated complaints lodged at the customer services centres of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation, power supply to their areas could not be restored.

A resident of Khayaban-i-Badban, DHA-V, said the power supply to his locality was suspended on Thursday night. He said the services centre of the power utility was immediately informed about the failure, but till dawn the whole locality remained in dark. The power supply was restored to many houses, except his residence, he said adding that twice he was issued complaint numbers, but the KESC officials failed to rectify the fault.

According to the KESC announcement, power supply would be interrupted from 9am to 5pm on Saturday in following areas for system improvement work.

Defence Phase-IV extension, Khayaban-i-Tanzeem, Khayaban-i-Shujaat, Khayaban-i-Shamsher, Clifton blocks 5 and 8, Sikandar-abad, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Shah Faisal Town, Saudabad, Darakhshan Society, Fatima Jinnah Society, Dawood College, Malir, LHM Area Korangi, Cattle Colony, Juma Goth, Jam Goth, Landhi, Hill Park apartments, Tipu Sultan Road, KDA Scheme 1, 2, 3, Marton Quarters, Nafeesabad, F.C Area, Punjab Colony, Korangi Industrial Area Sector-24, Chandni Chowk, Orangi Town, Nazimabad No 3, Shalimar Garden, Abbasi Railway Crossing, Abbasi Hospital PMT, North Karachi Sector 11-C/2, 5D, Surjani Sector-2, KDA Scheme-14, F.B Area block 17, 21, Gulshan-i-Maymar, Ehsanabad, SITE, KDA Scheme-33, Gulistan-i-Jauhar blocks 7 and 10, Metroville, Gulshan-i-Iqbal block-7, Sabzi-mandi, Rizwan Society, KDA Scheme-33, and Sharfabad.

Power supply to Mehmood-abad, Manzoor Colony, FTC, PECHS block-6, Nursery and AKUH may also be interrupted till February 16 due to installation of a PMT.
