LAHORE, Feb 1: An express train will be running four days in a week while the operation of three other trains has been cancelled, the Pakistan Railways announced on Thursday.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had on Dec 16 last inaugurated the all-economy-class Pakistan Express that was to operate initially on alternate days between Rawalpindi and Karachi.

With effect from Feb 2, the train will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Rawalpindi and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from Karachi.

The operation of an express, a passenger and a mixed passenger trains had been cancelled from Feb 1 as these were found to be non-profitable.

Launched on Dec 5 last year, the Peshawar Express (175-up/176-down) used to run between Peshawar and Rawalpindi, the passenger train (219-up/220-down) between Rohri and Dadu while the mixed passenger train (311-up/312-down) ran between Kotri and Rohri. —Staff Reporter
