GUJRANWALA, Feb 1: The traders of Aamir Market pulled the shutters of their shops down in protest on Thursday evening after one of the traders was murdered and his son injured by unidentified motorcyclists.

Eyewitnesses said two people came to the shop of Qayyum Butt who was one of the top mobile phones dealers. They had an exchange of hot words and one of the men opened fire on Qayyum, killing him on the spot. His son Hamid tried to catch the criminal who shot at and injured him. The injured was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

The attackers drove away on a motorcycle. However, police suspected that the killer might be related to one of the men against whom a theft case was registered on the complaint of Qayyum Butt.

Police registered a case against unidentified people and are investigating.

arrested: Police on Thursday claimed the arrest of two main accused involved in the kidnap for ransom case of a Mandi Bahauddin doctor.

“The arrests were made from Naushera Virkan after an encounter,” police said. Dr Muhammad Akhter was kidnapped and kept in Pipli Goraya village near Naushera Virkan by the accused. He was free after three days after his relatives paid Rs3 million ransom.

Regional police officer additional IG Malik Muhammad Iqbal took serious notice of it and formed a police team to trace the accused identified as Ghulam and Ehsan.

Police also recovered an unregistered car and illicit arms from the possession of the accused. A hunt for their accomplices was on.
