KARACHI, Feb 1: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Thursday condemned the gang-rape and humiliation of a 16-year-old girl of village Habib Labano, Ubavro, District Ghotki of Sindh and the threats and harassment of her family by the influential landlords of the village.

According to an HRCP statement, it had got information that a group of 11 men representing influential landlords of the village Habib Labano had kidnapped an innocent girl who was disrobed and forced to walk around the area. She was later raped by two persons on the waderas’ orders because the girl's cousin had eloped with and married a young woman from their family.

“The police have registered an FIR and arrested six of the eleven persons named, but had not yet arrested the main perpetrators who masterminded the atrocity,” it said, adding, the HRCP is further investigating the case.

The HRCP has demanded of the government to take immediate action in this matter to ensure justice to the oppressed girl. The rights group urged the government to order an impartial and thorough investigation into the complaints filed by the victim's parents and called upon the chief justice of the Sindh High Court to intervene into the matter and appoint a lady sessions judge to probe into the incident.
