CHITTAGONG, Jan 31: The average price of Bangladesh tea fell 0.57 per cent to 95.30 taka ($1.37) per kg on poor quality at a weekly auction on Wednesday, brokers said. “Little more than 1.09 million kg were sold at an average price of 95.30 taka per kg, down 0.55 taka from the last sale.” said an official of the National Brokers Limited, the country's largest tea broker.

The withdrawal percentage was 40.74, the highest for the current tea-growing season, he said.

Buyers from Pakistan and Bangladesh participated in the auction, in which different grades were sold between 50 taka and 178 taka per kg.

“The prices declined as the offers contained mostly

end-of-season type poor leaves,” an auctioneer said.

The next weekly auction will be held on Feb 6, with an expected offering of nearly 1.72 million kg.—Reuters
