KARACHI, Jan 29: Contaminated water is being supplied to Neelum Colony, Clifton since past few months. The residents have stopped using water received through the lines and opted for supplies delivered by tankers.

Residents of different streets in the colony told this scribe that despite repeated complaints, the concerned officials were ignoring their problem. The residents said they had no choice except pay Rs1,000 per tanker, which hardly met their requirements for a fortnight.

The water is supplied once in a week for about 50 minutes. The water’s colour and smell had changed and consumers have to keep the taps running for at least 15 minutes to remove the slush and dirt that comes along with the water.

The residents complained the supply line in use was more than 30 years old and needed to be replaced.

An alternative line had been laid two years ago, but was not being used. The people also complained of choked sewerage lines and said the sanitary staff rarely lifted garbage from their locality.—A Reporter
