KARACHI, Jan 29: Several residents of Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s Block 7 have complained that the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) is not fulfilling its commitment of installing power meters for their household despite the advance payment having been made about six months back.

“We had deposited the provisional bills in advance but still waiting for some KESC men to install the meters six months on,” said Ansar Ali, Iqbal Shah and Sultan in disgust. They also complained that there was no proper lighting arrangement along the roads and streets in their locality. The KESC had not even installed poles in a big portion of the area, they added.

They pointed out that people were forced to draw electricity through ‘kunda’ (hook) only because the KESC had for long put them on the promise of providing meters.

Most of the applicants wanted to get the problems of voltage fluctuation and breakdowns resolved and avoid action by the KESC officials for using kundas, but the power utility was not cooperating with them, they maintained, adding that they were being made to visit the KESC office concerned every now and then without any progress of their cases.
