RAWALPINDI, Jan 27: Two suspects in the remand custody of Civil Lines police escaped from the lockup on Saturday. According to sources, Awal Sher, an Afghan national, was arrested in connection with vehicle theft, while Farrukh Aziz, a resident of Chamanzar Colony, was being interrogated in a robbery case.

The accused escaped after breaking the lock with an iron rod in the wee hours of Saturday, they added.

Civil Lines SHO Karim Niazi, when contacted, said shortly after leaving his office at around 4am, he received a telephone call about the suspects breaking free from the lockup.

The SHO did not rule out the involvement of policemen who were on duty last night.

A report in the incident has been registered on the complaint of night Muharrar, ASI Mohammad Akram.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man was killed after being run over by a vehicle near Faizabad on Saturday.

Police shifted the body to the DHQ hospital for postmortem while a search had been launched to trace the accused.

VEHICLES STOLEN: Six vehicles were stolen from different parts of the city, police said on Saturday.

Subtainul Hassan’s car was stolen from the Civil Lines, Afzal Khan’s car (MNH-8833) from R.A. Bazaar area, Farhan Mehmood’s car from Saddar, Khurram Mehmood’s car (RIV-372) from Civil Lines and Ahmed Jamil’s (STN-4485) from Westridge. Zafar Mehmood told the Ganjmandi police that his motorbike was stolen from outside his house.
