MUZAFFARGARH, Jan 27: A woman was injured when a train hit her near Railway Station Budh on Saturday. Sakeena Bibi, 33, was crossing the rail track when Multan-bound Bilal Express hit her leaving her face injured and legs cut. She was taken to the Nishtar Hospital in Multan where her condition was stated to be critical.
Four people have died in the last 10 years because there is no overhead bridge at the station. Every day hundreds of the people cross the railway lines risking their life.
Near the station, there is a government-run primary school wherein 300 children are enrolled.
Malik Sajjad Hussain, the headmaster of the school, told Dawn that many children came from the other side of the railway station by crossing the track on foot. Oil and goods trains often stay at the station for hours and children and other people have no other option but cross it by creeping under the compartments.
“We have given many applications to senior railway officials for an overhead bridge but to no avail,” said Sajjad.
Assistant Station Master Muhammad Hanif said that oil and goods trains overstayed at Budh station because it was next to Mahmood Kot where trains from all over the country came to load and unload oil. There is a major oil terminal and an oil refinery at Mahmood Kot. He said a railway overhead bridge was a must for the public and he had asked higher authorities for the bridge many times.
