KARACHI, Jan 27: President of the Pakistan People’s Party, Karachi Division, Rashid Rabbani and other leaders have condemned the alleged attempt to kidnap a party activist, Ali Asghar Pathan, by Muttahida Qaumi Movement workers in Railway Colony area on Saturday morning.

They called upon the chief election commissioner and chief justice of the Sindh High Court to ensure holding of free and fair by-election for NA-250 and stop the police to become a party in the election.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, the PPP leaders claimed that Muttahida workers tried to kidnap Mr Pathan but faced resistance and had to escape.

They alleged that police refused to register an FIR against the accused when some PPP leaders approached the Frere police for the purpose.

They deplored that Muttahida had resorted to harassing PPP workers and supporters after sensing its defeat in the February 10 by-election.
