FAISALABAD, Jan 26: The central jail superintendent among 11 other staffers was suspended from service following the recovery of a cell phone from the possession of a prisoner, sources said on Friday.

They said DIG jail Nadeem Kaukab Warraich paid a surprise visit to the central jail the other day and inspected different barracks. During inspection, he recovered a mobile phone from a prisoner, who was awarded death penalty by a local court.

The sources said the DIG after a probe forwarded his findings to the Punjab government for action against delinquents. Keeping in view the inquiry report, the provincial government suspended superintendent Saeed, deputy superintendent Ansar, assistant superintendent Aamar Ahmad and eight constables.

A month ago, another deputy superintendent Riaz Ahmad Khan had also been suspended from service on the orders of the provincial jail minister on dereliction of his duties.

The sources said no action had been taken against the prisoner. — Correspondent
