Elite Force soldier guns down old man

LAHORE, Jan 25: An Elite Force personnel gunned down an elderly man over a monetary dispute in the Shahdara Town area on Thursday. Naimatullah, 80, was at his grandson Waseem’s PCO when Ahsan, a taxi driver, came there and made a phone call.

Waseem asked Ahsan to pay the previous phone calls’ bill of Rs200. He refused to pay the bill and threatened him with dire consequences. Niamat intervened and snubbed him.

Ahsan called his brother Imran, alias Kaka, who was in Elite Force, there. He had an exchange of hot words with Waseem. When Niamat intervened, Imran allegedly opened fire on him.

Niamat died on the spot while the accused managed their escape.

An elderly woman was poisoned and killed allegedly by her step-granddaughter over a property issue in the Ghaziabad area.

Police said Sardaraan Bibi, 80, was at her house along with her husband Riasat Ali when her step-granddaughter Hina along with an unidentified man came there. She injected Sardaaran with poison and escaped.

Sardaaran died on the spot.

The police said the accused Hina was Riasat’s daughter from his first wife who had died. Riasat had contracted a second marriage with Sardaaran but he had no children from her.

Hina wanted her share in property, which Sardaaran refused. They had quarreled over the issue in the past.

BURNT: A mentally deranged man was burnt alive in the Kot Lakhpat area on Thursday.

Police said Asim Masih, 50 was mentally sick. He climbed a stationary goods train at the Kot Lakhpat railway station and touched high-tension electricity wires. He died on the spot.

ACCIDENTS: A corporation employee was crushed to death by a crane in the Laiquatabad area on Thursday.

Police said Manzoor Masih, 45, a resident of Naseerabad, was on a bicycle when a speeding crane knocked him down. He died on the spot.

The crane driver managed his escape.

A labourer died after falling from a moving truck in the Mustafabad area in early hours of the day.

Rafique, 35, of Bahawalnagar, was sitting on to the roof of a truck, which was on its way to Faisal Town from the Dry Port.

Passing through Dharampura underpass, his head hit a board and he fell from the truck. He died in Services Hospital.
