24-hour medical stores urged

MITHI, Jan 24: The Tharparkar district council at its session on Wednesday demanded that the health authorities should ensure adequate supply of medicines to government hospitals and see to it that the hospitals’ medical stores remain open round the clock.

Convenor Abdul Karim Rahoomo presided over the session.

Member Prem Kumar put forward a resolution pointing out that the civil hospital was running short on medicines and its medical store mostly remained closed at night. The poor relatives of patients brought late in the night often had to knock at the doors of store owners’ house to get necessary drugs, he said.

Abdul Aziz Bajir agreed to the resolution while narrating his own experience at the civil hospital. He said that a couple of days ago he went to civil hospital after he felt pain in the stomach late at night.

After examining him the doctor on duty informed that the hospital had no injection or a pain killer tablet and he would have to buy it from a private medical store, he said.

The council passed the resolution urging the authorities concerned to take necessary measures.

The council passed several other resolutions demanding construction of community centres in Dhaklo (Dipsingh mohalla), Karnore (Meghwar mohalla), Kerti, Doori (Soomra mohalla), Hothiar (Meghwar mohalla) and Giryano (Ranjho mohalla) villages, construction of compound walls around Muslim graveyard in Chelhar, Girls Primary School in Bitri and Hariar villages, completion of road from Mithi to Verhijhap, sink well in Kolhi Para of Qabool Ji Dhani and sanctioning of a hand pump in Qabool Khan Khaskheli Dhani. The council adjourned for Thursday.
