SANGHAR, Jan 24: A large number of fishermen on Wednesday observed token hunger strike outside the district nazim’s office demanding implementation of licensing system for catching fish in the district.

The fishermen Pir Bux Mallah, Rasool Bux Mallah and Ramzan Mallah said that the Sindh government had implemented licence system at Keenjhar, Manchhar and other lakes of the province. But in Sanghar district the contract system was still in force at Chotiyarioon, Bhakkar, Seri, Awadh and Wadhki lakes and Ranto canal, they said.

They complained that no one bothered to listen to their grievances. Later, Fisheries Assistant Director Khursheed Shah met with the protesting fishermen and assured them they would soon receive licenses after completion of necessary formalities.
