KARACHI, Jan 22: Police on Monday booked Secretary-General of the Jamaat-i-Islami Syed Munawwar Hassan and many prominent Karachi-based leaders of Muttahida Majlis-iAmal along with 150 activists and supporters, for violating the Loudspeaker Act and blocking the road facing the Empress Market for staging a sit-in.

An FIR (No.26/07) was lodged against them at Preedy police station under Section 3/4 of the Loudspeaker Act and Section 139/141 of the Police Act 2002. However, none of them was arrested. Those booked include MPAs Nasrullah Shaji, Hameedullah Advocate, Younus Barai, Mohammad Hussain, Nafees Ahmed, Siddique Rathor, Basharat Mirza, Nihal Hashmi and Shabbir Abu Talib.

The sit-in was held by the MMA against price-hike on Sunday. PPP, PML-N and other parties had also participated.
