KARACHI, Jan 22: The Sindh Ombudsman office has planned a comprehensive mass awareness campaign ‘walk along’ to guide people about the role of ombudsman offices in addressing public grievances.

The campaign, which will be launched formally in February by the governor, will comprise of a series of meetings with different organisations, seminars and workshops in 10 cities.

The cases being submitted to the Sindh Ombudsman offices showed that 70 per cent of public complaints were genuine, but the government officials were not taking interests to solve them for reasons best known to them, said Ombudsman Secretary Ashfaq Ahmad Memon on Monday.

“The ombudsman office is a part of the civil society, which checks the abuse of official powers and provides relief to people,” he said adding that for provision of speedy justice and further improvement of the legal system the ombudsman’s office would always welcome suggestions from the stake holders.
