Lara keen to win

NAGPUR, Jan 19: West Indian batting great Brian Lara said on Friday he was determined to make what could be his last tour of India a memorable one. The teams meet in a four-match one-day series beginning in Nagpur on Sunday with the remaining three matches to be played in Cuttack (Jan 24), Chennai (Jan 27) and Baroda (Jan 31).

West Indies, who were runners-up to Australia in the Champions Trophy in November, have won six of their past seven meetings against India since May.

“What is important for us is that we have the psychological advantage. And we just want to continue with it. We want to ensure that we stay dominant over India,” the 37-year-old told reporters.

“Of course I'd like to leave India --- if I am not going to come back – on a high note.”

The series will serve as a warm-up for the World Cup in the Caribbean in March and April.

“I think it is necessary for us to get some international cricket under our belt,” said Lara, whose team is missing injured batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan and bowler Corey Collymore.—Reuters
