Sohail’s ton rescues Pindi

RAWALPINDI, Jan 19: A maiden century by upcoming all-rounder Sohail Tanvir engineered a magnificent comeback by Rawalpindi in their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League fixture against Sialkot at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.

The left-handed Sohail hammered 124 and Usman Saeed 88 to steer Rawalpindi to a healthy first-innings total of 324. The seventh-wicket pair came together to put on 150 after the hosts had slipped to 105-6 having resumed at the overnight score of 47-4.

Sohail belted 11 fours and two sixes in his 173-ball knock while Usman dispatched a dozen balls to the fence, facing 180 deliveries altogether.

Kashif Raza captured 5-62 and fellow paceman Asim Butt took 3-132. Left-arm paceman Sarfraz Ahmed got 2-52.

Sialkot finished the day on 27-2 in reply.
